Retired
Michael Organ (b.1956) retired in 2020. Prior to this he was Manager - Repository Services, University Library, University of Wollongong and former University Archivist. He completed an honours degree in geology at the University of Wollongong in 1985 and a postgraduate Diploma in Archives Administration at UNSW in 1986. Michael was appointed Archivist at the University of Wollongong in 1995. Between 2002-2004 he was the Australian Greens Federal Member for Cunningham. Michael's research interests are in the area of film studies, archival and library sciences, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Australian history.

Abstract
The objects in the exhibition Metropolis: Rotwang's Robot, Revolution and Redemption started out as marketing material for the landmark 1927 film Metropolis, by German director Fritz Lang. In the intervening years they have evolved from commercial products into memorabilia and collectables - the works in this exhibition all come from the private collection of former Greens MP Michael Organ.

The fight to save Illowra ("Hill 60") - Aboriginal land at Port Kembla
The Illowra / Red Point / "Hill 60" Department of Defence land offered for sale by tender in July 2006 is indicated in red. It can be clearly seen from this view that the large parcel of land - 6.3 ha - is an important and substantial element of the Hill 60 area and a logical extension to the present Hill 60 Park. Introduction Illowra (Red Point, Ti-tree Hill or Hill 60) at Port Kembla is a site of immense cultural and spiritual significance to the Aboriginal people of the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Occupied and made use of for thousands of years, it is dotted with middens and burial sites, tangible evidence of its role in the everyday life of the local people. It is also a site of storytelling and ceremony. As a result, concerted efforts over two centuries by non-Aboriginal Australians to force the local Indigenous people to sever their connection with this area have proven unsuccessful. Old Bulli Railway Guest House 1887 Bulli Railway Station, eastern side, looking south-westerly. In the right background can be seen the two-storey Railway Guest House, with iron lacework verandahs Postcard, circa 1900. The horse and buggy at the station entrance indicate the approximate age of the photograph. Under Threat 2006-7 The historic Old Bulli Railway Guest House (1887) at No.2 Station Street, Bulli, is threatened with demolition as a result of a plan to construct a Woolworths shopping centre on land to the south of the building at Molloy Street, Bulli.
